Mother’s Wayward One
When I was a cute little baby Everyone thought I
would do well But I grew up and found those painted ladies And I fell
beneath their worldly spell
So many nights I’ve spent in the
jailhouse For some petty things I’ve done Stole a few cars and took some
money But I never did hurt anyone
Chorus: It’s cards and liquor
in the morning I never step into the sun I stay
one step ahead of the policeman I am my mother’s wayward
one
When my mother was on her death-bed I saw those tears in her
eyes She prayed that I would find Jesus And then that poor old lady
died
Chorus
I coughed
up blood when I woke this morning There was a cold wind at the door Sounds
like the devil’s out there knocking Lord, I can’t do this anymore
Chorus
