Spark And Joe
(click on the title to hear an excerpt)

Spark and Joe were walking down the road
Spark was going bald so he wore a hat
Joe, he was the handsome one
The one all the girls looked at
They’d known each other since they were six years old
They were moving awful close to 40 now
Didn’t neither one have much to show

Chorus:
But you know they were friends
And they hung together
Just like stars in the night

You know Joe, he was kind of a scoundrel
A fact that Spark knew well
Spark would just sit there and smile sometimes
At the stories Joe would tell
Like when Joe was trying to make some girl in some
   downtown saloon
Spark would sit there and cover his mouth with his hand
While Joe would shoot for the moon

Chorus

It was Joe who protected Spark when they were kids
When some bully wanted to start a fight
Later on it was Spark who covered Joe’s ass
When Joe did something maybe not quite legally right
They were just walking down the road
Joe was smoking a cigarette
Spark, he quit about three years ago
Walking between the full moon and the stars
With no particular place to go
