Setting Sun
By Chris Mitguard, Nancy Wood, Don Richmond

I will follow the setting sun
Till my feet fall off and my time is done
Like a stream ‘neath the pale moonlight
I seek a path through the night

Chorus:
I will bless the baby’s breath
I will mourn the old one’s death
I will follow the setting sun
Till my feet fall off and my time is done

All day long the cricket waits to sing his song
Till the night time comes along
Cricket sings and the barn owl hoots
And the worm’s in the garden beneath the roots

Chorus

Instrumental

Ah the rain – it fills the creeks
And the snow falls upon the peaks
A yearning heart sings its lonely song
For a place in the world where we all belong

If we could be more like the sun
And never tire from what we’ve begun
Not complain or from our truth disembark
Not give ‘cause it’s gettin’ dark

Chorus
I will bless the baby’s breath
I will honor the old one’s death
I will follow the setting sun
     Till my feet fall off
     Till my feet fall off
Till my feet fall off and my time is done

I'm Gonna Fly
By Chris Mitguard

Sun’s gonna set, ponds goin’ dry
Hey, everybody we’re all gonna die
But don’t you cry; I’m gonna fly

Life’s been good – sometimes bad
It’s the only life I ever had
But don’t you cry; I’m gonna fly into the sky

Chorus
     Don’t’ know much about heaven
Lord, knows I’ve paid my dues
You can have your preacher on Sunday, honey
     I’ll take my lovesick blues

Ah, what can I say, day is done
Lookout, darlin’, my race is run
But don’t you cry; I’m gonna fly into the sky

Instrumental – 2 verses

Chorus

Ah, what can I say, day is done
Lookout, darlin’, my race is run
But don’t you cry; I’m gonna fly into the sky

Instrumental – 2 verses

Sun's gonna set, ponds goin’ dry
Hey everybody we’re all gonna die
But don’t you cry; I’m gonna fly into the sky

Honey, don’t you cry; I’m gonna fly into the sky
Honey, don’t you cry; I’m gonna fly into the sky

Little Sister
By Chris Mitguard

Every footstep she ever took
Every word she read in every book
All the clouds in the sky
All the times she wondered why

Chorus
     Little sister, she’s gonna fight
If she thinks she is right
For the ones that she loves
She’s gonna take off her gloves

For every lie you might have heard,
You can take her at her word
She might not do just what she’s told
But she burns like a fire in the cold

Chorus
     Little sister, she’s gonna fight
If she thinks she is right
For the ones that she loves
     When push comes to shove
She’s gonna take off her gloves

Instrumental

For every friend she ever nursed
When the times were at their worst
For every bug she saved and took outside
For every time she turned the tide

Chorus
     Little sister, she’s gonna fight
If she thinks she is right
For the ones that she loves
     When push comes to shove
For the ones that she loves
She’s gonna take off her gloves
For the ones that she loves

Out On The Plains
By Chris Mitguard

Out on the plains the wind is blowin’
Over the graves where the grass is growin’
There’s a shadow of a crow sliding across the land
And a pile of bones that once was a man

Down by the creek there were two lovers,
They made sweet love there like so many others
But the creek dried up and the memories did fade
It’s rocky and hard now where once love was made

In the old part of town the buildings are empty
There used to be smoke rose from all those chimneys
Miles away the new freeway hisses
Leaving behind a world that nobody misses

I often wonder where my father did go
I’d ask my mother but she died a few years ago
I asked my grandma when I was seven years old
She hugged me and kissed me and said, “Son, some things you best not know.”

So I look out on the plains where the wind is blowin’
Over the graves where the grass is growin’.
There’s a shadow of a crow sliding across the land
And a pile of bones that once was a man

Home
By Chris Mitguard

Full moon’s a risin’ over the hills
My darlin’s in the garden tending her daffodils
Mangy cat napping ‘neath the willow tree
I can feel the universe whispering to me – “you’re home"

Chorus
Out on the highway, miles away
This old pilgrim found his way home one day
     Found his way

Out in the desert, earth cracked and dry
You can always see a red-tailed hawk
Somewhere in the sky
Black crow flyin’ – silver in the sun
All that space around you
And there’s no place to run – nowhere

Chorus

Instrumental

See that ol’ river movin’ so slow
You might think that muddy water
Had nowhere to go – nowhere
My darlin’s heart is big as the sky
She says she loves me but I don’t know why – I don’t know

Chorus (2X)

Keep My Mouth Closed
By Chris Mitguard

I got a bone for my dog, fish for my cat
Honey for my baby, what’cha think about that?
I’ve been thinkin’ ‘bout that girl all day long
If I keep my mouth closed I won’t say nothin’ wrong

I went down to the river, watched the fish swim by
Big yellow sun up in the sky
A meadowlark singin’ so pretty I could cry
If I keep my mouth closed I won’t have to tell no lie

Chorus
Lilac bushes, they smell so sweet
Feel the earth hummin’ through my feet
Since I told those other girls “good-bye”

Well I stole some flowers on the way to your house
The cops and me are playin’ cat and mouse
I’m hiding in the alleyway, listen to those sirens wail
If I keep my mouth closed I won’t have to go to jail

Instrumental (2 verses and chorus)

I used to have girls all over this town
I can’t help it if they follow me around
But I had to leave those pretty things behind
If I keep my mouth shut I don’t think my baby will mind

Chorus

(Repeat first verse)
If I keep my mouth closed I won’t say nothin’ wrong
If I keep my mouth closed I won’t say nothin’ wrong

Come Home
By Chris and Deb Mitguard

Come home, come home
Where the mountains touch the sky
I miss you so much darlin’, I could cry
I’ll make a plate of cookies; I’ll bake you an apple pie

That ol’ rivers movin’ slow
Like it’s got nowhere to go
I feel like that river, I’m movin’ slow
Wherever you are, I hope you know

Chorus
     The cottonwoods and the magpies
The aspens and the blue skies
Even the bullfrogs on the river are calling you home

Sweet darlin’, I wish you well
Wherever you might be
Whether in a deep dark jungle or by a raging sea
Hope you’re far from the troubles that so worry me

Instrumental

Chorus

Come home, come home
Even if you’re just passing by
You made your poor mother, made your poor mother cry
Your mother who raised you so you could fly
Your mother who raised you so you could fly

Winter's Comin'
By Chris Mitguard

Aspen trees are turnin’ gold
Summer’s gone and the nights are cold
The mountains are dark
In the late afternoon
Winter’s comin’

I feel like an orphan, but I’m an old man
My family’s waiting in the promise land
My mother’s there
And my daddy too

Chorus
I just want to go on back
And look into your blue eyes
I want to hear you laugh
When I tell you one of my lies
I want to walk down by the river
     Your hand in my hand
I want to hear your voice
     Tellin’ me you understand

That old cat can hardly walk
That old man
He can barely talk
Life just seems to slip on by
I tell ya, honey, sometimes I just want to cry

Instrumental

Her voice is drifting through the air
Her blankets folded on the chair
I think of her in the late afternoon
I think of her

Chorus
I just want to go on back
And look into her blue eyes
I want to hear her laugh
When I tell her one of my lies
I want to walk down by the river
     Her hand in my hand
I want to hear her voice
     Tellin’ me she understands

Snow is blowin’ on the ground
I’m walking through this lonely town
Old man looking for the lost and found
Winter’s coming (repeat a few times)

No Uniform
By Don Richmond, Chris and Deb Mitguard

There was a time when I judged you
For your tattoos and your nose was pierced
And I was afraid you might be dangerous
With your spikes and your eyes so fierce
I stared down at the sidewalk, tried to look away
But as you brushed on by me
I thought I heard you say

Chorus
I got no uniform, don’t want to march in the parade
Don’t want to be defined by the assumptions that you made
And I would set you free, as I would have you do for me
When I’m standing in the light on the far side of the storm
      I don’t want no uniform

If you were not my sister
And I did not know your heart
The different paths we’re walking
Could have kept us far apart
But love is more important than the shadows we perceive
And too precious to risk losing for anything we might believe

Chorus

Standing at the counter
I can see it in her eyes
Just another old man
Way past his prime
But my journey isn’t over, there’s so much I don’t know
So I thanked her for the coffee and she says to me just before I go

Chorus

Black Widow Spider
By Chris Mitguard

I’m a black widow spider; you can paint my belly red
I’m a black widow spider; you can paint my belly red
I love me a good man
I can love him ‘till he’s dead

Come and lay down here beside me; I’m gonna make you smile
Come lay down here beside me; I’m gonna make you smile
I’m gonna lead you up to heaven; I’m gonna take you there in style

Instrumental

They say my sweet kisses; they burn hotter than Texas oil
They say my sweet kisses; they burn hotter than Texas oil
I’m gonna make your skin tingle, I’m gonna make your red blood boil

Instrumental

I’m a black widow spider; you can paint my belly red
I’m a black widow spider; you can paint my belly red
I love me a good man
I can love him till he’s…dead

Big Bear
By Chris Mitguard

Big Bear is standing in the rain
Shouting at the cars comin’ up and down the lane
People pass by and laugh ‘cause he’s insane
Big Bear is standing in the rain, oh yeah
Big Bear is standing in the rain

Someone said that once he had a wife, oh yeah
Way back when, back there in another life
He woke up one morning with those voices in his head
No one ever knew just what those voices said, oh no
No one ever knew just what those voices said

Chorus
No one really wants him, they wish that he would just leave town
He’s bad for business, no one really wants that kind of tramp hangin’ around

Big Bear is movin’ on his way, (hey, hey)
He sleeps in the bushes, but just where he won’t say
You might pass him in the park when you’re walkin’
But you won’t know – Big Bear, he don’t have no other place to go, oh no
Big Bear doesn’t have no other place to go

Instrumental - Verse

Chorus

Big Bear is standing in the rain
Shouting at the cars coming up and down the lane
Greasy beard, dirty clothes, ragged boots, Lord knows the pain
Big Bear is standing in the rain
Big Bear is standing in the rain

(Outro)

I Ain't Goin' Anywhere
By Chris Mitguard

The shadows are growing longer; the moon is on the rise
Our love is getting stronger but that ain’t no surprise
I love you babe; I ain’t goin’ anywhere
People can say what they want, but I don’t care

Let’s sit hang out ‘neath the moon all through the night
Stay here in my arms till the morning light
I love you, babe; I ain’t goin’ anywhere
People can say what they want, but I don’t care

Chorus
Maybe I’m lucky for the hard times
That led me down this road
I found you there with your blue eyes smilin’
     Such a sight to behold

You could have done better; we both know that
But how could you resist me in my cowboy hat?
You know, I love you babe; I ain’t goin’ anywhere
People can say what they want, but I don’t care

Instrumental (verse)

Chorus

I’ll be your burden; you can be mine
Tell me for certain, that you’ll be my valentine
I love you babe; I ain’t goin’ anywhere
People can say what they want, but I don’t care

Instrumental (verse)

Let’s climb that mountain where the sun went to hide
Let go of the past, leave behind our pride
I love you babe; I ain’t goin’ anywhere
People can say what they want, but I don’t care (3X)
